Webinar: Coding Changes for FY 2022: Essential Education for Coders

Join us for all the needed updates for coding in one webinar! More than 211 changes to coding take effect for FY 2022 with 159 new codes. In addition, there are several revisions to the index and tabular list including conventions changes for specific codes. (e.g., Excludes 1, Excludes 2, Use additional code and Code Also). Missing these subtle changes may cause incorrect coding. Revisions to ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting which will also be emphasized. Class is suitable for home health & hospice.

Objectives:

• Identify the new coding changes that affect home health & hospice
• Determine which codes now require greater specificity & updated coding instructions
• Review updates & changes to coding guidelines for FY 2022 effective October 1, 2021
• Discuss Test Your Knowledge cases to illustrate the new coding changes

Some highlights include the expansion of depressive episode coding, new codes for contact dermatitis, expanded symptoms such as cough and polyuria, COVID coding updates, 6th character expansion for adverse effects/poisoning with cannabis, new personal history codes, and new social determinant codes.

Presenter: Joan Usher, BS, RHIA, HCS-D, ACE, President, JLU Health Record Systems is a nationally recognized AHIMA Approved ICD-10-CM trainer and certified Home Care Coding Specialist – Diagnosis coder from the Association of Home Care Coding and Compliance (AHCC). Joan has a degree in Health Information Management and has been a home health consultant for over 30 years. She has educated more than 25,000 people in nationwide on coding. Joan is past president of the Massachusetts Health Information Management Association (MaHIMA) and active member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
