A Thanksgiving Message for Rhode Island’s Frontline Home Care and Hospice Workforce

November 26, 2020 — A Thanksgiving Message for Rhode Island’s Frontline Home Care and Hospice Workforce
By: Nicholas Oliver, Executive Director

No amount of words can express the gratitude in my heart for your dedication to deliver the utmost quality care to your homebound patients and clients. Your fearless commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of those entrusted in your care over these past several months is appreciated by your administrators and your patients’ and clients’ families. You are the greatest unsung heroes on the frontline of this ongoing public health emergency.

Over the next several months, I intend to work with your administrator and their leadership team to advocate for higher reimbursement rates to substantially improve your wage and benefits. I invite you to join us in this fight. Our association has been the only voice fighting for you and your colleagues, as well as your patients and clients for over three decades. However, we need more of you to join us in our fight, share the stories of your challenges faced while providing care during the pandemic and tell our federal and state government decision makers that home care and hospice workers cannot be forgotten in a post-COVID-19 economy. As we organize for this upcoming effort, I hope that you will join us when we ask for your help.

May you find ways to enjoy Thanksgiving and this upcoming holiday season despite the public health restrictions. I will continue to keep you in my thoughts during these remaining months of the public health emergency. Thank you for helping us with “Advancing quality healthcare at home”.

Be well, stay safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
